Wonky Tonk is not just music created by Jasmine, it is a movement founded in love, art, encouragement and non-judgment. Although she strives to seek the positive, she has struggled with depression and anxiety all of her life. She has witnessed family members and close friends struggle and die from depression and other forms of mental illness. Needless to say, the struggle for mental health and wellness is something that has shaped Wonky Tonk's art and life. The song and video for "Go Lay Down" is a reflection of this. Mental health resources are scarce and dealing with mental illness can be scary because of the stigma. But, local organizations, like the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Northern Kentucky (NAMI NKY) exist that provide free assistance and support for those affected by mental illness and also work to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. Thus, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month and organizations like NAMI NKY, Wonky Tonk has released "Go Lay Down."
